Golf by dskciado

Every now and then, a guy just needs to escape the daily grind and get away with the boys for some quality male bonding - no women, no children. We all know about bachelor parties, but Father's Day, a big birthday or a big promotion are all good reasons. And let us not forget about impending fatherhood - you might as well enjoy yourself one last time because your life will soon be all about wipes and dipes.

Instead of the usual poker game and a case of beer in your buddy's basement, think big. Think about a trip to do manly things, whether that's golfing, fishing, eating big juicy steaks or whatever other activities you so desire. To help you get started, we've rounded up a list of activities, events and parties to plan a guys' vacation around.

Part I - Activities to Plan a Guys' Trip Around

1. Golf
A golf trip is the quintessential buddy trip for duffers. The question is what type of experience are you after. For legendary golf, Monterey, California (Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and The Links at Spanish Bay); St. Andrews, Scotland; or Pinehurst, North Carolina are your best bets. If you want to mix in some partying with the golf, try Scottsdale, Arizona; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; or Palm Springs, California. For those who want to go off the beaten path, take your game to Bandon, Oregon; Sheboygan, Wisconsin; or Northern Michigan (Bay Harbor, Arcadia Bluffs and Forest Dunes, to name a few).

2. Ballpark Tour
What guy doesn't love seeing sports in action? For the sports fanatics among you, take a road trip to do a ballpark tour. Catch a game at the hallowed grounds of Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field. Travel to the left coast to soak in the atmosphere at AT&T Park, Safeco Field or Petco Park. Or maybe head to Arizona or Florida for spring training. If hockey, basketball or football is more your game, then simply adjust the itinerary accordingly.

3. Ski
Just because the weather outside may be frightful, it doesn't mean the boys have nowhere to go. It's actually the perfect time to make a winter escape on a ski getaway. Take on the steeps and bumps by day; drink and canoodle with snow bunnies by night. What more can the guys ask for. Ritzy Aspen, Colorado; rugged Jackson Hole, Wyoming; spectacular Lake Tahoe, California; picturesque Stowe, Vermont; legendary Vail, Colorado; and the "Best in North America" Whistler / Blackcomb, Canada are just a few of your choices for a snowy adventure.

4. Indulge in Vices
When you haven't hung out with the guys for a while, quality time simply requires getting together and being boys. In other words, drink, play and be naughty. In that case, look for destinations that will best allow you to indulge in a few of the deadly sins, whether that's greed, sloth, lust, envy or gluttony. It goes without saying that Las Vegas, Montreal and Atlantic City are prime candidates. Should you need more inspiration, take a look at the article The 10 Best Destinations for a Bachelor Party.

5. White Water Rafting
Need to get your adrenaline pumping? Then go where the river runs wild on a whitewater rafting trip. Enjoy the thrills and spills together as you paddle down roaring rapids, encounter roller coaster waves, avoid giant boulders and take in spectacular views. Top destinations for rapid lovers in North America include Colorado River, Arizona; Salmon River, Idaho; Rogue River, Oregon; Gauley River, West Virginia; and Magpie River, Quebec, Canada.

6. Race Car Driving
If you and your buddies often find yourselves pushing the pedal to the metal, the best way to satiate your need for speed is with a race car driving getaway. Take command of a stock car through Richard Petty Driving Experience at over 20 tracks. Get in the cock pit of a 600hp Indy car at any of the 12 Mario Andretti Racing Experience locations. To really drive like the pros, then consider multi-day sessions at Jim Russell Racing School, Bondurant Racing School or Skip Barber Racing School.

7. Fly Fishing
For those of you anglers who consider paradise as standing waist-deep in the middle of a river with fly rod in hand, a fly fishing trip is just the perfect adventure for the boys. Enjoy the serenity of being surrounded by unbroken wilderness with beautiful blue sky hanging overhead. Experience the rush of fighting the perfect catch. Some of the top spots include Wind River Range, Wyoming; Henry's Fork, Idaho; Nakililok Bay, Alaska; Florida Keys; and Armstrong' Spring Creek and Gallatin River in Montana.

8. Mountain Biking
Want to get away from the crowds and head out to the wilderness where you can rocket down steep trails, shred singletracks and jump off obstacles in your path? Gear up with your gang of fat tire flyers and plan an awesome mountain biking adventure. Make the trek to Moab, Utah, home of the greatest mountain biking on the planet. Check out Fruita, Colorado, the original other Moab and its Fat Tire Festival. Explore the "country roads" on Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia. And don't forget about Whistler, British Columbia, where Crankworx, the premier mountain bike festival in North America, is held.

9. Surfing
The feeling of catching THE WAVE is simply indescribable. That's why surfers travel all around the world in search for that perfect solitary break, where they can escape from the daily grind and enjoy the natural splendor. Isn't it time you and your buddies seek out your own surfing adventure? Find amazing breaks at Rincon, just south of Santa Barbara, California. Make a pilgrimage to the fabled North Shore in Oahu. Venture abroad to Jeffreys Bay, South Africa or Gold Coast, Australia. For the exotic, put Mentawai Islands, Indoneisa; Pavones, Costa Rica; or Tavarua Island, Fiji on your itinerary. Surf's up!

10. Be a Cowboy
Want to see if you can ride 8 seconds on an untamed bull? Or have you always dreamed of living a day in the life of a real cowboy on a dude ranch? Grab your chaps and hat and saddle up, city slickers! Experience 3 days of professional bull riding instruction from the country's best Rodeo school at one of 18 locations (through Cloud 9 Living). Alternatively, try your hand at rounding up cattle at Marriott Ranch in Virgina; Laramie River Dude Ranch in Colorado; or Lazy E-L Ranch in Montana.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. For anyone interested in rafting, the Gauley River had some pretty great rapids for an East coast river. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice adventure vacation.
